Blue Exorcist: Volume 3

10334529Goodreads Says:    As a new Exorcist Esquire at True Cross Academy, Rin Okumura has a long way to go before he reaches the top rank of Paladin. When Rin and his classmates are sent to search for a ghost, Amaimon, King of Earth, takes Rin by surprise and steals the Koma Sword. Higher powers have been observing events at the academy and make their presence known. New players enter the game, and Rin doesn't even know he's playing.

My Thoughts:

-    Kuro is cute! I was happy with how things turned out for him.

-    Shura needs to put on a shirt! Geez! No woman would wear a bra that small. It would be so uncomfortable.

-    I don't trust Mephisto. He is bad news.

Blue Exorcist: Volume 2

10334528From Goodreads:    Shocked by the death of his foster father and the revelation that his real father is the demon Lord Satan, Rin Okumura enters the True Cross Academy to learn to be an exorcist. But every great exorcist has to start somewhere, and for the students of the academy the first step is the Exwire examination. To prepare for the exam, the new pages in Yokio's class must undergo intensive training. Rin and his classmates have their hands full when a demon appears, but is this a test or something more sinister?

My Thoughts:

-    Poor Shiemi! I feel so bad for her. I'm hoping for a lot of growth from her.

-    I want to know more about Mephisto. He is weird.

-    What are the requirements to join this school? Can anyone become and exorcist?

-    I liked the first volume more.

-    Nee is cute! I wish it was in color so I could see him better.

It won't be easy, especially when drawing his father’s sword releases the demonic power within him!

My Thoughts:

-    I wish this was in color.

-    What a crazy first volume. I hope the next books are just as good.

-    Rin reminds me of Natsu from Fairy Tail.

-    I'd like to watch the anime now.

-    The illustrations are great. I like the style and the way movement is shown.

-    I like the layout of the pages.

-    Good story and characters so far!

The Winner's Curse

16069030Goodreads Says:    Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

My Thoughts:

-    OMG!! My heart bleeds!!! Oh the emotions!!

-    I loved the time period and culture. The whole setting was awesome.

-    The dialogue was so powerful. Arin and Kestrel say so little words to each other, but each word is full of meaning.

-    My whole body reacted to this book. I don't know if I've had the same physical reaction to any book. My stomach was churning. I had butterflies in my stomach. My gut was wrenched. I got teary. This book was so physically emotional for me!

-    I don't know if I'll ever get over this book. I could not read for a whole day after finishing. I just couldn't stop thinking about Arin and Kestrel.

-    I love how brilliant Arin and Kestrel are. Their minds think on a higher level. I wish I was that strategic and clever.

-    I can't wait for the next book!! I'm dying!!!

NEVER!! That is a carnal sin! No one should do this!!!

Favorite reading snack?

I don't like to eat while I read cause I don't want grease, salt, juice, etc. to get on my book.

What’s the weirdest book you’ve ever read?

Another toughy! I like weird and unusual things, so I don't find too many books weird. Sometimes I find a few relationships that are weird.

Favorite fictional villain?

Oh gosh! That is so hard! I would have to narrow it down to Legato Bluesummers from Trigun and Mark Hamil's Joker.

Any books that you’ve been avoiding?

Avoiding how? I'm hesitant to read avoiding? I refuse to read avoiding? I won't read erotic stuff. I avoid non-fiction, but I'd like to get into that more.

Yes! I love animals, and we usually have something fuzzy running around our home. We've had several hamsters, rats, and dogs. We currently own Chewy! He is a poodle/yorkie mix.
He frequently makes appearances on Instagram.

Yes, I have several friends and acquaintances that ask for recommendations. I'm always eager and willing to share a good book!

Anne of Windy Poplars

65840Goodreads Says:    Anne Shirley has left Redmond College behind to begin a new job and a new chapter of her life away from Green Gables. Now she faces a new challenge: the Pringles. They're known as the royal family of Summerside - and they quickly let Anne know she is not the person they had wanted as principal of Summerside High School. But as she settles into the cozy tower room at Windy Poplars, Anne finds she has great allies in the widows Aunt Kate and Aunt Chatty - and in their irrepressible housekeeper, Rebecca Dew. As Anne learns Summerside's strangest secrets, winning the support of the prickly Pringles becomes only the first of her triumphs.

My Thoughts:

-    Anne looks younger on this cover than she did on the previous two covers. Why did they do that?

-    I don't know if everyone will appreciate the subtle beauty and charm that is Anne's world. The story isn't thrilling or exciting. It is about people and their lives.

-    I felt like the book is made up of a bunch of different stories because the book is about all the different people Anne meets and influences during her three years in Summerside.

-    I missed Gilbert and Diana a lot. Anne writes Gilbert a lot of letters, and Diana is mentioned, but it just isn't the same.

-    The author skips the parts of Anne's letters that are "love letter" bits. I'm curious about what Anne would say in her love letters, but I'm also grateful they were omitted because I think they'd be boring and full of fluff.

-    Misunderstandings seem to be the theme of this book.

-    Hazel is one crazy basket case! Good luck Terry!

-    Gerald and Geraldine are horrible awful little children that need some major smack downs!

-    I can't believe Gilbert and Anne were engaged for 3 years! And they spent the majority of the time far away from each other.

-    Elizabeth is probably my favorite story. I love her little personality, and I loved her happy ending.

-    I can't wait to continue Anne's journey in the next books!

Shallee McArthur's Launch Party

Before the launch party, Suey and I made posters!
We've never done this before, but I thought it would be fun.

Here are our posters and Shallee. Suey is taking the picture, so Tori (her daughter) is holding her poster.

This was the launch party for The Unhappening of Genesis Lee. It is Shallee's debut novel.
She talked about her life long journey to becoming an author. It was a fun presentation. Her book was influenced by The Giver by Lois Lowry, her grandmother, and her baby brush. There was also 2 gifs of Richard Armitage! I requested Armitage, and Shallee delivered!

She had some amazing giveaways! She gave away bags with 2 books, some cool bracelets, swag for her book, candy, and a giant eraser. It was awesome! Suey won a bag!

Here is Shallee signing her book!

I think this was the last author event for a while. We've had a lot of them!
Next event: MOCKINGJAY!!!

The Lost Hero

7736182Goodreads Synopsis:    Jason has a problem. He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?

Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.

Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god.

My Thoughts:

-    Hooray for more Percy Jackson/Camp Half-Blood books!!

-    I love how adventurous Rick Riordan's books are. They are so fun! I like that our heroes go on epic quests and meet different people from mythology.

-    I love how Riordan modernizes the old myths and people/gods.

-    I liked the new characters. They were fun to get to know better. Jason is a strong character. I can tell he is going to do some awesome things in the future. I wish there was a previous series about Jason and his team. Leo was really fun and quirky. I liked his humor, and I think he had the coolest powers. I liked Piper a lot. I didn't think I would, but I did. I felt like she had the biggest character growth.

-    I loved the mesh of Roman and Greek stuff. Brilliant!

-    More! More! I want more!
