Book Trivia Night

A couple weeks ago, the night after Sara's event, we went to Book Trivia Night at the library.
We made a new friend, Jess. She came by herself and joined our team.

There were 9 rounds of trivia. Each round had 10 questions, and the rounds had different bookish themes, and the questions were about ALL variety of books. There were about 6 other teams, and in the end, WE WON!! We rocked!

Our prize was awesome! We each got a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble.

It was an exciting night, and I am still proud of us! Go team!

Kathryn Purdie

Kathryn Purdie was at the Provo Library last Tuesday! It was the launch party for her debut book, Burning Glass.

She had SO much energy, and I don't know if it was from excitement or nerves or both. She kept getting distracted from saying hi to random people she knew in the audience. She had a pretty big crowd at the library! I was really shocked for a debut book. She has lots of friends and family members.

Here are a few things Kathryn talked about:

-    Kathryn wanted to be an actress. She has been in a ton of plays, and she thought she would be doing that the rest of her life.

-    She donated a kidney to her brother Matt. It took 3 years before the doctors would let her donate even though she was a perfect match. There was a lot of medical and technical stuff to deal with.

-    Kathryn is an avid and dedicated journal writer. She has filled a lot of journals!

-    The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan is the book that inspired her to write.

-    After several rejected books, Kathryn decided to write about and empath. While she was recovering from donating her kidney, she became very in tune with other's feelings. She talked to her uncle about how she was feeling and he told her to write a book about an empath.

-    Burning Glass flowed from her. This story felt different, and there was no resistance in writing it.

I got a fuzzy picture of Kathryn signing a book.

Here is me and my group of friends with the author!

Marie Lu

Last Thursday, I went to the Provo Library to see Marie Lu! She is the author of the Legend trilogy! If you haven't read them, DO! They are really fun!

Here is Gene introducing the author.

Marie decided not to use the podium cause it was too tall for her. Hooray for short Asians!
She had a lot of interesting things to say about her book. The idea behind the series started when she was watching Les Miserables. The dynamic between Jean Valjean and Javert intrigued her, and she wondered what they would be like as teenagers, so she decided to write a story about a teenage criminal and a teenage detective. Originally they were both boys, but her boyfriend said it would be better if one was a girl, and Day and June were born!

Here is the signing table!

It was a fun event, but I'm sad that none of my blogger buddies were there to enjoy the event with me!! Shame on all of you!

Brandon Sanderson

On Monday, I had the pleasure of seeing Brandon Sanderson at the Provo City Library! It was a fun event!

Here is Gene getting the evening started.

Here is the man himself!

I decided to ask a question cause I was really curious about the answer. Suey from It's All About the Books caught it all on video!

I really liked his answer, especially the last bit.

I always thought Brandon Sanderson was a giant nerd, but he was actually really fun to see!

I should read his books!

Pitch Dark Days Tour

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending the Pitch Dark Days event at the Provo Library

My favorite part was meeting up with all my blogger buddies! I'm going to be lazy and not list everyone. Sorry!

Here are the authors that came! I don't know what Brodi and Debra are doing. Looks like they are playing rock, paper, scissors.

Brodi Ashton signing a book! I also met her mom and got her to sign my book.

Brodi said we could pet her, and I just couldn't pass that up!

Kiersten White signing some books!

Lauren Oliver signing my books!

I only met 3 of the 6 authors. I'll have to read the other's books and catch them some other time.

After we fought the crowds to get our books signed, Suey, Suey's daughter, Jenny, Jenni Elyse, and I went to JCWs to enjoy good food and fun chatter. I had a ton of fun!

I can't til the next author event!!!

Lois Lowry

I had a the pleasure of seeing Lois Lowry last night with my friends!
Jenni Elyse, Penelope, Me, Emily, I forgot her name (SORRY!), Suey, Jenny, and Jessica!
I also snapped a picture of Enna, but it came out fuzzy!!!  I was going to use it as blackmail, but alas...she befuddled my camera to fuzziness to keep her secret identity.

Here is Lois Lowry telling us about her books.  I was so happy she told us how they are all connected!

Here she is signing books!  I had the pleasure of standing in line behind "Tiger" ;)

It was a fun night!  I look forward to more Author events at the library!
Although, it was Courtney's last event, and I'm sure future Authorlinks won't be as awesome.  SO SAD!
