Robinhound Crusoe

Robinhound CrusoeGoodreads Synopsis:    Oakdale is shut down during a blackout, and Joe's big chance to get noticed by the eighth-grade basketball coach will be left in the dark--unless he and Wishbone can somehow hightail it across town to the game in time! Their adventure reminds Wishbone of Daniel Defoe's great tale "Robinson Crusoe." Wishbone imagines himself as Crusoe, the lone survivor of a shipwreck, tossed into a deset isle without food, shelter, or friends. He soon finds himself battling nature, wild cats, and hungry cannibals. It will take every ounce of brains and courage this canine castaway has to beat the odds and save the day!

My Thoughts:

-    I haven't read Robinson Crusoe, but Wishbone is SO good at getting readers excited about a story, and now I want to read the original. It probably isn't as fun as Wishbone makes it sound, but I still want to read it.

-    I didn't know that Robinson Crusoe was on that island for SO long! Whoa! I would go crazy and pray for a quick death. Gnome really liked how Robinson survived for so many years on the island. It is pretty impressive on how he finds food and makes things.

-    I liked Joe's part of the story. Even though he was scared and worried, and he was trying to get to an important basketball game, he stopped to help a little girl, and he was concerned for his mom. He also didn't want to let his teammates down. Joe is a good guy!

-    I don't think they made this story into a Wishbone episode. I haven't been able to find one.

The Prince and the Pooch

Image result for The prince and the pooch coverFrom Goodreads:    When Joe gets a chance to prove himself as coach and discovers that it is not as easy as it seems, Wishbone is reminded of the tale in which a poor boy trades places with the crown prince of England, each one believing that the other has the easier life.

My Thoughts:

-    Gnome and I both loved this one. It was fun to imagine Wishbone as both Edward and Tom.

-    This was a really fun introduction to The Prince and The Pauper. It is my favorite Mark Twain book, so I'm glad Gnome liked it and is interested in the story.

-    Gnome laughed several times, especially when Wishbone helped Joe with coaching.

Salty Dog

Salty DogGoodreads Synopsis:    Ahoy! Buried treasure is always a good reason to dig up adventure! There's treasure in Oakdale! To find it, Wishbone, Joe, Samantha and David must enter the condemned Trumbull Barn.

This reminds Wishbone of the high-seas tale Treasure Island, and Wishbone imagines himself as the orphaned Jim Hawkins who follows up a map to excitement-and treasure! Soon Jim finds himself face to face with dangerous pirates and the adventure of a lifetime.

Only a special breed of hero-one with canine courage and a nose for adventure-can tackle all this trouble!

My Thoughts:

-    I love that these books have more content than the TV show, and I love that the stories are true to the original books. They do a good job abridging the story for a younger audience.

-    Wishbone as Jim Hawkins was awesome! I love imagining a cute little dog as the characters. The pictures of Wishbone in the different scenes are really fun too.

-    Gnome and I both enjoyed this one a lot. I liked reading out loud with a pirate accent. It was fun.

-    This made me want to read Treasure Island!

Be a Wolf!

Be a Wolf! (Adventures of Wishbone, #1)Goodreads Synopsis:    Horrible monsters are taking a bite out of the kingdom! Who you gonna call!?When Joe Talbot's backpack is confiscated, Wishbone and Joe Talbot must confront a scary neighbor with a Big mean dog to get it back.

This reminds Wishbone of the old English tale Beowulf. Imagining himself as the great hero Beowulf, Wishbone must defeat a series of monsters who are ravaging the kingdom.

A lifetime of adventure takes him on a collision course with his greatest foe yet. And this time, it will take more than courage to defeat this monster. It will take a hero with four legs and the heart of a warrior!

My Thoughts:

-    When I was a kid, I LOVED Wishbone. I watched his show religiously every day. I bought all the Wishbone books I could from the book orders in school, and I've held on to all my Wishbone books.

-    I decided to share Wishbone with Gnome. We started watching episodes from Youtube, and Gnome enjoyed it. Now we've started reading my old Wishbone books.

-    This one was really fun. I've never read Beowolf, but I might. I don't remember reading this one, and it isn't a Wishbone episode, so the story was new for me too.

-    Gnome and I both enjoyed the book. We liked picturing Wishbone take down the monsters and doing fun things.

-    We also enjoyed Joe's story with the scary old lady.

-    Even after all these years, I'm still a big Wishbone fan!
