Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator

17242194Goodreads Says:    Now that Charlie has won the chocolate factory, what's next? Even wilder adventures, that'swhat! Join him, Grandpa Joe, and, of course, Willy Wonka for the amazing, intergalactic sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

My Thoughts:

-    This was a weird book! I realize I'm saying this about a Roald Dahl book, but this was strange even for him.

-    I felt like there were two parts to the story, and they were disjointed.

-    The story wasn't fun to read, and Gnome was really bored. She didn't want to finish, so I finished without her.

-    Gnome didn't like that there weren't as many pictures in this book as there were in previous books.

-    This is definitely my least favorite Dahl book, and readers could probably skip this one.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

109089Goodreads Says:    Willy Wonka's famous chocolate factory is opening at last!

But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!

My Thoughts:

-    I haven't read this for a while, and it was fun to revisit a childhood book with my daughter. This book is just as fun when you are an adult!

-    While reading this, I kept thinking about the Tim Burton film. He did a great job adapting this book into film. It is pretty accurate.

-    Gnome didn't love this as much as other Dahl books. She enjoyed the story, but this one had less pictures, and she didn't like that.

-    The story is so whimsical and outrageous, and I love it. Dahl's imagination has no limits. He really knew how to create timeless stories.

-    I love the Britishisms in the books. I'm glad they weren't changed to fit our American English.

-    I wish there really was a chocolate factory like Willy Wonka's.

Gnome's Thoughts: (spoilers)

-    I liked when Grandpa Joe jumped up and did a dance. That was funny.

-    I liked what happened to all the kids.

-    I liked how they burst into the house at the end.

-    The book is funny.
