Dune

My Thoughts:

-    I wasn't planning on seeing Dune. I just wasn't interested, but my friends wanted to go, and they invited me along, so I went.

-    This was my very first IMAX movie. It was impressive. The screen was massive, and the sound quality was amazing. I went to another another movie that evening (yes, two movies in one day), and the screen and sound were not as good. It seemed so small, and I wanted the larger screen. Suey, you spoiled me!

-    The movie only covers the first part of the book. There will be more movies.

-    Basically, the house of bald and brooding bad guys ruled the spice planet for a long time and became ridiculously rich. The emperor decided to remove the bad guy house from the spice planet and replace them with the good guy house led by a bearded Poe Dameron. Poe's mistress, Jessica, is part of this scary witch group. She has been training her son, Paul, in her witchy/culty ways. Paul is special because of his bloodline and training. Well, he is having vivid dreams about Zendaya and other things on the spice planet. When Poe's people get to the spice planet, they find out the bad guys have left it in bad shape, and bad things happen. There is a lot of political and cultural things going on that are important to the story, but it is a big jumbled mess.

-    The blue-eyed desert people are really important, but the movie mostly just talks about them. The desert people live on the spice planet, and the big bald bad guys were mean to them, but the new good guys want to work with them in harmony. Zendaya is part of the desert people, but she only gets to be seen for a small part at the end of the movie, and in Paul's dreams.

-    The ending is a little abrupt, because there are going to be more movies, so the story does not get wrapped up, things are just bad for our heroes.

-    I didn't like that Jessica kept freaking out during the movie. She is a member of this scary witch group, so she should be able to be more in control of herself.

-    The movie is LONG, and it feels long. I don't mind long movies, but I mind when they feel long, and I'm wondering when the heck they are going to wrap this up.

-    Overall, I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was a good adaptation of the book. I felt the same way about the movie that I did the book, so that is good. The movie is a beautiful feast for the eyes. The cinematography was well done. The music is gorgeous. Hans Zimmer really outdoes himself on this one. Yes, I would recommend seeing it in the theater, in IMAX.

My friends and I hosted a read along for Dune a while ago.
I will post links below, so you can check out my previous posts on the book.

Avengers: Infinity War

Image result for avengers infinity war

My Thoughts:

-    I thought the movie was good. I liked it a lot better than some of the other MCU movies.

-    I loved all the moments right out of the comics. Things happened just as they should have. Yay!

-    There was a whole lot of handsome on the screen! Seeing some of these guys in the same shots was awesome! I would love to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr. do another movie together.

-    The Chris-off was my favorite! I loved Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth's exchange on the Milano. It was hilarious!!

-    I loved teenage Groot!

-    There were a lot of funny moments. I laughed a lot.

-    I miss Adam Warlock and Silver Surfer. I understand why Silver Surfer can't be in the film, but what happened to Adam Warlock? We saw his cocoon at the end of Guardians 2, but where did he go? How will they defeat Thanos without him?

-    I'm also wondering if Lady Death is going to make an appearance.

-    I'm excited to see Captain Marvel in the next movie!!

-    I'm glad they did the Infinity War in two parts. I was worried about everything they were going to have to squeeze into this movie, so I'm glad it is going to be two movies.

-    Overall, this is one of the better MCU movies. I liked it.

True Grit

My Thoughts:

-    I was disappointed. This movie was dumb!

-    Whoever edited this movie needs to be fired! The scene jumps were awful! It made the movie feel choppy, and the story didn't flow too smoothly. If I hadn't seen the original first, I would not have known what was going on and what the story was.

-    I could not understand most of what Jeff Bridges was saying! He mumbled a lot, and I can't understand hick talk anyway, so the mumbling made it worse.

-    Does Rooster ever stop talking? He never shut up! He just rambled on and on and on, and I feel like it didn't fit his character.

-    John Wayne was better. John Wayne was WAY better. He had the true true grit!

-    After the Texas ranger bit off his tongue, I couldn't understand him either! It was frustrating.

-    What is with the rope? How does it keep snakes away? They should have explained that.

-    Barry Pepper played Ned Pepper! ha ha ha! I got a kick out of that.

-    This one just wasn't as good as the old original.

-    I liked the Mattie in this one. She wasn't as annoying as the original. She did a good job, and I can't believe this was her first movie!

Hubby's Thought:

-    The snow in this movie is weird

Tyson's Thoughts:

-    Jeff Bridges is awesome!

-    Jeff Bridges is so full of grit that he's exploding with grit.
