Fan Art Friday: The Scarlet Pimpernel

This week I'm showcasing:
286963

I can't believe how much fan art is out there for this book! I found tons, but I had to cut it down. I still kept a lot, and I hope you like them.

There is a lot of variety in style and technique in these!

There are a lot of good ones, but the last two are my favorite. I love that someone kittyfied the characters. I love the last one because it is exactly how I picture Percy. I love the face and hair, and the style is so simple.

Which is your favorite?

If you like a specific artist, the pictures are all linked to the source.

Getting to Know You: Animals

This feature is hosted by Jenni! Each week she'll prompt us to list stuff we love.
This week's prompt is:

My Favorite Animals

This will be hard to narrow down because I'm a HUGE animal lover!
I prefer animals to human beings.

#1 absolute favorite animal in the whole wide world is the red panda!!
They are the cutest things!! I want one so bad!

The rest are in no particular order.

I'm a big dog lover! This is my doggy Chewy!

I love anything in the canine family, so yes to foxes and wolves.

I have a soft spot for hamsters. This is my baby boy, Mr. Nibbles.
His death anniversary is coming up this month. Thinking of him still brings tears to my eyes.
We had a special bond.

I love all rodents! This is Sally, our rat. She was like a mini dog. She knew her name, and she came when we called or whistled. She had the cutest personality!

I think Platypuses are the funniest and most interesting creature.
They are also pretty darn cute!

Aw
I grew up on a farm, and I raised lambs. I have a soft spot for little black faced lambs.
We kept them as pets, and I raised them from babies. I loved bottle feeding my lamb every day.

We had chickens, and one time when we were buying new baby chicks the store had ducklings. I begged my dad for one, and to my mom's chagrin, he bought me a cute little yellow fluff. It grew into a white duck, and I loved him. My sister also got one. We loved our ducks and filled a small pool for them to swim.

My grandpa and uncles had horses. I loved one in particular, his name was Colorado (he didn't look anything like the one pictured). He was so gentle. He was my favorite to ride. I think horses are go beautiful and majestic. They can be so loving and loyal. They say dog is man's best friend, and I believe it, but I've also known some pretty great horses.

I love all the varieties of bears. They are so cute and fuzzy! I love pandas and polar bears the best.

Elephants are so fascinating to me. I love how they organize family units, and they mourn for each other. They even visit grave sites of those who have died.

I've wanted a wombat ever since I was small. They are SO cute! Look at that face!
I also love their hard rumps.

Who doesn't love big cats? They are so cool! I can't really peg which one is my favorite. I like tigers, the lynx, and panthers a lot.

I love turtles and tortoises! I think they are fun and cute. I want one!

Otter Wallpaper HD
Otters are SO cute!!! I love how they float on their backs, and I love it when they hold hands while floating on their backs. They are so playful and fun and cute and and and . . .

I could talk about animals all day, but I'll stop here!
If I could have a safe haven for all the creatures on Earth, I would.

Golden Son

Golden Son (Red Rising Trilogy, #2)From the Dust Jacket:    As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring the backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow's kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitists masters, the Golds - and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within.

A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love - but also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankind's destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution - and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo's principles of love and justice to free his people.

He must live for more.

My Thoughts:

-    Holy cow! These books are awesome! So many feels! This first book was awesome, and the story just keeps growing an evolving into something even more.

-    The politics in this book is crazy! Everything is so intricate and could fall apart at any moment. The politics were a little overwhelming at times, but it was vital to the story.

-    I'm not sure if I like how Darrow's character has changed or not. He is under some serious pressure from all sides, and I'm not sure all of his decisions were good ones.

-    There are some blow your mind revelations in this book.

-    These books aren't for everyone. It gets very violent. People die! People I care about die, and it isn't pretty! There is a lot of sexual banter/language/references that I could have lived without.

-    I don't know who to trust!! The betrayals left me wounded. Darrow made some majorly good and bad choices that gained him strong allies but also strong enemies. I wasn't sure who was going to stand by him and who was going to stab him in the back (literally and figuratively).

-    The ending!!!! GAH! I HATE cliffhangers like this!! This ending left me feeling hopeless and bleeding! Oh my heck! WHY!?!?

-    Next book please!?!?!? NOW!

Persuasion

My Thoughts:

-    The 1995 version is WAY better! This was dull and awful.

-    The camera work throughout the film drove me crazy! There were really bad monkey cam moments, especially in the beginning and the end. Why did we need to be so close to everyone's faces? The costumes and scenery is nice, lets see some of that! I hated just seeing giant  heads for most of the film.

-    The picture quality is pretty bad for 2007.

-    The story strayed from the book. I hate that! The 1995 version follows the book better.

-    The ending made me so angry. It just drags on and on. The letter isn't as awesome. The fact that Anne is running all over town was annoying. The kiss was SO awkward. It looked liked she was going to eat him. Stupid stupid ending!

-    Something about Anne bugged me. I don't know exactly what it is, but I didn't like the actress for her. I kept thinking she needed to close her mouth. She just lets it hang open.

-    Although the Captain Wentworth in this was better looking than the 1995 Captain, the acting wasn't better. The acting in the 1995 version was better overall.

-    The longing looks and glances weren't there :(

-    I was bored for a lot of this movie. It just didn't grab me or keep my interest. It felt like the whole movie took forever.

-    Skip this and go watch the 1995 version. It is much more satisfying.

Bad Hair Day

18527499Goodreads Synopsis:    After a tough day at school, I am NOT in a good mood. The perfect pick-me-up? A trip through our magic mirror! When my brother and I -- plus our new dog -- end up in the story of Rapunzel, we can't resist climbing her hair. Oh no! Her smooth locks suddenly look like they've been attacked by a cheese grater. Maybe a trim will help...Snip, snip. SNIP. Oops. Now Rapunzel's hair is too short and we're trapped!

So we have to:
-Find the tower's secret door
-Avoid getting swallowed by a giant spider
-Locate Pickles (aka the prince)
-Reunite Rapunzel with her parents

If we don't untangle this knotty tale soon, we could be stuck in this mess for good!

My Thoughts:

-    I thought it was funny that Abbey kept messing things up. Usually Jonah is the trouble maker, and he did a couple dumb things, but Abbey is the one who really screws up in this one.

-    Abbey is a little bossy for a 10 year old. It bugs me sometimes, but on the flip side, she gets things done.

-    Maryrose intrigues me. I wonder what she has in store for Abbey and Jonah.

-    I like the twist on Rapunzel for this one, especially since Abbey and Jonah ruin Rapunzel's hair. I thought that was hilarious. I also think Rapunzel and Pickles' happy ending is awesome.

-    I still think these are cute, but I'm getting a little burnt out on them. I think i need to take a break from the fluff reads.
