Beauty and the Beast

My Thoughts:

-    I wasn't going to go see this in theaters, but I needed a night out, and I didn't know what else to see. It was the first time I've gone to a movie alone. It wasn't so bad.

-    I have been really skeptical of this movie. I love the animated film so much, and I was scared of what they were going to do to it. I wasn't happy with what I was seeing and hearing in the trailers.

-    The movie wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. There were a lot of good things going on. It was alright.

-    I really wish Emma Watson's singing had been dubbed. It was painfully obvious that she had been auto tuned, and it hurt the ears. She also had to cut notes short because she couldn't sustain them. Other than the singing, I really liked Watson as Belle. She fit the role.

-    I didn't like Beast's face. It was too CG. When Beast turns back into a man, it wasn't horrible. I was really happy that he looked better as a man. Thank the maker for Dan Stevens not have a horrible nose, chin, and huge eyebrows. It is my only complaint about the animated film. Every time that animated dude turns around, I yell, "Change him back!" Not the case here! Thank you!

-    In the trailers, I wasn't sure about Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts, but in the end, I really liked them. The bantering between Lumiere and Cogsworth made me laugh.

-    I liked what they did with the Maurice and Lefou characters. Their roles adapted into something more. Maurice was a more prominent character, and they showed his love and protectiveness over Belle. It was sweet to see a loving father figure. This version of Lefou had a bit more backbone, and I loved that. As for the "gay" moment in the movie. It was totally a publicity stunt, and I'm not even sure you could call it a gay moment.

-    Overall, it was good. I wouldn't buy it or anything, but it was better than I was expecting.

The Scarlet Pimpernel

File:The Scarlet Pimpernel 1982 film dvd cover.jpg

My Thoughts:

-    Oh my flamboyance! Percy's acting was too much. I couldn't handle it.

-    What the crap does "Sink me!" even mean? It baffled me every time Percy said it.

-    Ian McKellen is SO young in this! I almost didn't recognize him. He was awesome!

-    I liked seeing Percy's disguises. They were really fun and clever.

-    This didn't follow the book very well, but I could see why people like it.

-    My husband thought Marguerite was very pretty. I couldn't over her giant afro.

-    The music was over dramatic at times and very absent other times.

-    The best part of the movie was the costumes.

-    This movie was bit over the top for me. I didn't hate it, but I didn't enjoy it either.

-    I wouldn't mind seeing a more updated version of this with less flamboyancy.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

My Thoughts:

-    Not even Richard Armitage could save this movie!

-    Not even Richard Armitage + Martin Freeman + Benedict Cumberbatch could save this movie!!

-    Why were the orcs completely CG? Why weren't they guys dressed as orcs? That bugged me! WETA is getting lazy!

-    The barrel fight was ridiculous!! OMG! The barrel roll with Bombur was too much, and there are no words for the stupid stuff Legolas did.

-    Legolas's face bugged me. He looks different. What did they do to him? Did they CG some of his face? Something about it bugged me.

-    The book was completely forgotten. Why!? Why did they stray so far from the book! Tolkien must be rolling in his grave!

-    I thought Turiel was going to really bug me, but I actually liked her stuff. She was good, except for the infatuation with Kili. What the heck is up with that!? Why were Kili and this elf flirting!? Weird and Wrong!

-    They leave Kili behind!?!?!?!? WTF! Four dwarfs are left behind when they go to the mountain?

-    Why was the focus not on Bilbo? The Hobbit is about Bilbo, the hobbit, and the movie took its focus off of him for most of the time!

-    There were a lot of slow and boring parts. The scenes just didn't want to end! The movie was losing me.

-    I like how they depicted Beorn, but they screwed up his part.

-    Gandalf didn't know about the ring or Sauron until Lord of the Rings!! He spends YEARS researching it! Hello!!

-    Desolation of Smaug? He is still alive. Where was the desolating?

-    I could forgive a few discrepancies with the first movie, but this was awful! I don't know if I even want to see the next movie.

Dave's Thought:

-    Peter Jackson, try again!

Tyson's Thoughts:

-    The barrel scene was made for 10 year olds.

-    There is a better way to spend $1.50

-    I was confused.

-    Why was the red headed lady hitting on the dwarf the whole time?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

My Thoughts:

-    The movie was good and very well done, but I have mixed feelings.

-    I feel like they took a lot more liberties with this one than they did with Lord of the Rings.

-    I haven't read The Silmarillion, and I know they added some things from that, so I can't fairly judge a lot of the liberties they took.

-    I didn't like the giant rock dudes.  They didn't add anything.

-    I didn't like how Bilbo was going to leave the company.  That was never the case.  He complained about the comforts of home, but he never attempted to leave.

-    I LOVED the dwarves' songs.  They were awesome!

-    I loved the dwarves a lot.  They were wonderful!  Thorin was cast perfectly!  He was exactly as I imagined him, very regal and proud.

-    I laughed a lot.

-    I was entertained the whole way through.  Some parts were slower, but I was still entertained.

-    It was so much fun to revisit Middle Earth and it's beloved characters.

-    I love that they made Gloin look a bit like Gimli!

-    Kili and Fili were very fun.  I always imagined them looking more similar, but they were awesome!

-    My favorite chapter in The Hobbit has always been Riddles in the Dark, and that was a very well done part in the movie.  They left out a few riddles though.

-    The music was fantastic!!  I love Howard Shore!

Hubby's Thoughts:

-    I hated the rock giants.

-    I hated how Thorin was a jerk to Bilbo.

-    I didn't like how Bilbo found the ring.

-    I loved that the story was still told.

-    It was good overall, but it wasn't epic.

David Copperfield

Description from PBS (I couldn't find a trailer in English):  As an aspiring writer, young David Copperfield (Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter films) could never have dreamed up a life story as epic as the one he was about to live. Born to a loving mother, Copperfield has a turbulent childhood at the hands of a cruel stepfather, followed by a rough education in real life at Mr. Creakle's school. Yet, Copperfield is also guided by unexpected goodness — in the forms of servant Peggotty, Mr. Micawber and aunt Betsey Trotwood. As Copperfield matures into manhood, he finds love, experiences betrayal, and reaches beyond the afflictions of his own life to find happiness. Bob Hoskins, Maggie Smith and Ian McKellen star in this 2000 adaptation of one of Charles Dickens's most autobiographical novels.

My Thoughts:

-    Daniel Radcliffe is so young!!

-    David's stepfather is a totally jerk!!  I hate him!

-    Maggie Smith plays a wonderful Betsey Trotwood!!  She is awesome!  I love the part where to she fends off David's stepfather!!

-    All the sub characters were more lovable and memorable than the main character, David.  I loved Peggoty!!  She was so loyal.  Dora is so dumb, but she grew on me.  She is like child, but she is always happy and in good spirits.  I also loved Mr. Micawber and Mr. Dick!

-    I'm SO glad that serpent, Mr. Heeps, got what he deserved!!

-    The movie was really long, but it was really interesting, and I was do captivated.  The intricate story was so Dickens.  I love his works, and I'm super excited to read David Copperfield now!!  I haven't read it yet, but I am definitely going to now!!
