Bye Bye 2013

Tonight we will say goodbye to 2013 and welcome in a new year, but before that happens I want to take a look back on my reading stats for 2013.

Total Books Read:    113
Total Pages Read:    33,526
Longest Book:    Les Miserables
Favorites:   (covers are linked)
11178225 15703770
 17929102 119485

As for my reading goals next year, I would love to push myself and go for 150 books, but I'd also like to slow down and do some other activities (cross stitching, video games, etc.) I'm stuck! What do you think my goal should be?

I'm also participating in a couple of Reading Challenges! You can see them on my side bar.

I'd just like to say, THANK YOU! to all my readers and friends. You made this year of blogging awesome! Good luck to you and all your resolutions in 2014!

Mary Poppins

152380From Goodreads:    By P.L. Travers, the author featured in the upcoming movie Saving Mr. Banks.   From the moment Mary Poppins arrives at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane, everyday life at the Banks house is forever changed.

It all starts when Mary Poppins is blown by the east wind onto the doorstep of the Banks house. She becomes a most unusual nanny to Jane, Michael, and the twins. Who else but Mary Poppins can slide upbanisters, pull an entire armchair out of an empty carpetbag, and make a dose of medicine taste like delicious lime-juice cordial? A day with Mary Poppins is a day of magic and make-believe come to life!

My Thoughts:

-    I read this a long long time ago, and I didn't really remember any of this book! I'm glad I re-read it.

-    This is a charming and magical story.

-    The movie isn't much like the book. There are a few things that are the same, but not much.

-    I enjoy the proper snooty Julie Andrews version of Mary Poppins, but the actual character in the book is even more snooty. I don't understand why she always denied knowing about the little adventures the kids had.

-    Jane and Michael were a bit misbehaved, especially Michael.

-    I liked all the fun "outings" and things the characters went on. Each one was unique and fun.

-    I really liked all the fun illustrations. I'm one of those that still enjoys some pictures in my books!

-    I read this cause I'm excited to see Saving Mr. Banks! I wanted to know the book that Disney and Travers were debating about! From the trailer, I gathered that the book was more about the father, but Mr. Banks was hardly in the book at all. I wonder if he is in the sequels more.

Champion

14290364
Goodreads Synopsis:    He is a Legend.

She is a Prodigy.

Who will be Champion?

June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic—and each other—and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the government’s elite circles as Princeps-Elect, while Day has been assigned a high-level military position.

But neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them: just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republic’s border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her country’s defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything.

With heart-pounding action and suspense, Marie Lu’s bestselling trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion.

My Thoughts:

-    OMG!! This was amazing!

-    The book was thrilling and exciting, and I could feel my heart beat quicken as I read.

-    For those of you who were waiting for some action between Day and June, you won't be disappointed!

-    The ending! Oh the ending!!! Make sure you have tissues handy for the last couple chapters! Oh the emotions!!! I'm still not sure how I feel about the ending! I hated it, but I loved it! I'm not going to get over this for some time!

-    I really loved seeing a map! It was interesting to see the different land masses all in chunks.

-    The characters and their development were phenomenal!! I loved how Day and June have progressed through this trilogy. They were softened and hardened. It has been such a journey!

-    I enjoyed the Antarctican civilization a lot.  It was really awesome and intriguing. It reminded me of a live video game. I would love a new series that takes place in Antarctica.

-    This is a series I'm going to want to re-read over and over again! I highly recommend that everyone read this!!
