I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You

Goodreads Says:    The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a fairly typical all-girls school, that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE, the latest in chemical warfare in science; and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes computer class. So in truth, Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses, but its really a school for spies. Cammie Morgan is a second generation Gallagher Girl, and by her sophomore year she's already fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways (three of which involve a piece of uncooked spaghetti.) But the one thing the Gallagher Academy hasn't prepared her for is what to do when she falls for an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, and track him through a mall without his ever being the wiser, but can she have a regular relationship with a regular boy who can never know the truth about her? Cammie may be an elite spy in training, but in her sophomore year, shes beginning her most dangerous mission; she's falling in love.

My Thoughts:

-    This is not the type of book I usually read, but it was a really fun and cute book. I'll have to add it to my guilty pleasure list. 

-    I loved Cammie's way of describing things sometimes. She is hilarious. I usually don't like over dramatic stuff, but the way Cammie dramatizes things is funny. 

-    Bex, Liz, and even Macey were all awesome! The close friendship these girls have is something any girl would want. 

-    I loved how the author captured the silliness and drama of being a teenage girl while still making them really smart and spies in training. 

-    I feel like the school system runs a lot like Hogwarts. I noticed some similarities anyway.

-    Josh was a really nice guy, but I really like that in the end, Cammie chose duty over cute boy. 

Dog Days

Greg, a self-confessed "indoor person,” is living out his ultimate summer fantasy: no responsibilities and no rules. But Greg’s mom has a different vision for an ideal summer . . . one packed with outdoor activities and "family togetherness.”
 
Whose vision will win out? Or will a new addition to the Heffley family change everything?

My Thoughts:

-    This book makes me never want to go to a public pool.

-    Greg is SO mean to Rowley. Why are they even friends? 

-    I love how Greg thinks he is going to be rich and famous some day. He is so stinking lazy. I don't see his dreams becoming reality.

-    I'm a bit of a home body myself, so I don't blame Greg for wanting to stay inside and play video games. He's gotta live it up while he is still young.

-    The illustrations were funny. I loved the book covers.

Happy Mother's Day

I was always scared to be a mom, especially of a little girl.

I love it though.

My little gnome is so amazing.

I don't know what I'd do without her.

The day I became a mother, was the best day of my life, no contest!

Gnome and I are best friends, and I hope we stay that way forever.

That would be the greatest Mother's Day gift.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

Our job isn't always easy, but it is an amazing journey.

The Last one is my favorite! I like that someone did some fanfiction fan art.

Red Rising

Goodreads Synopsis:    The war begins...

Darrow is a Helldiver, one of a thousand men and women who live in the vast caves beneath the surface of Mars. Generations of Helldivers have spent their lives toiling to mine the precious elements that will allow the planet to be terraformed. Just knowing that one day people will be able to walk the surface of the planet is enough to justify their sacrifice. The Earth is dying, and Darrow and his people are the only hope humanity has left.

Until the day Darrow learns that it is all a lie. Mars is habitable - and indeed has been inhabited for generations by a class of people calling themselves the Golds. The Golds regard Darrow and his fellows as slave labour, to be exploited and worked to death without a second thought.

With the help of a mysterious group of rebels, Darrow disguises himself as a Gold and infiltrates their command school, intent on taking down his oppressors from the inside.

But the command school is a battlefield. And Darrow isn't the only student with an agenda...

My Thoughts:

-    OMG! This is probably the most intense book I've ever read! The institute makes the hunger games look like a picnic.

-    The beginning is a little slow. It was hard to get into, and the world is complicated. It was hard for me to picture and understand. But once it starts going, it never stops! I was hanging on every word. 

-    The society reminds me of an episode from Stargate SG-1. 

-    Oh the violence! There is A LOT! Some of the savage and violent acts bothered me. I would not recommend this for teens. It is for adults.

-    In the beginning Darrow reminds me a lot of Day from Legend, but Darrow learns and grows a lot and he becomes his own distinct character in the end. He is hardened, and he becomes a leader I would follow. 

-    There are a lot of characters in this book, and it was a little difficult to keep them all straight. I liked a lot of the sub characters though, especially Sevro and Mustang. I loved Pax as well.

-    Cassius and Darrow's relationship makes me sad. I want them to be friends. They would be unstoppable together.

-    This story was amazing! I felt so many emotions for the characters, but mostly I am scared for them. Wonderful read, but again, it is pretty graphic. 

The Last Straw

Goodreads Synopsis:    Let’s face it: Greg Heffley will never change his wimpy ways. Somebody just needs to explain that to Greg’s father. You see, Frank Heffley actually thinks he can get his son to toughen up, and he enlists Greg in organized sports and other "manly” endeavors. Of course, Greg is able to easily sidestep his father’s efforts to change him. But when Greg’s dad threatens to send him to military academy, Greg realizes he has to shape up . . . or get shipped out.








My Thoughts:

-    I feel like I shouldn't relate to Greg as much as I do, but it is one of the reasons I like him so much.

-    The whole blanket/robe over a heat vent was awesome! I love to do that too.

-    I like that the book showed how awkward it is to start liking people in middle school. It really is that weird.

-    Greg's parents are kind of lame. They don't know how to handle their own kids. I can't believe the dad does Rodrick's homework. 

-    I understand making a high school student do his own laundry, but I wouldn't make a kid in middle school do it. Greg probably stank so bad!

-    What happened to Greg at the end of this book is WAY worse and more embarrassing that when happened in the last book over the summer.

-    I loved Gred's report! The content was BS, and I loved how he used a giant font and huge margins. I can't say I haven't tried that trick before.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

My Synopsis:

-    A man living in a brownstone in New York writes about a peculiar girl who lives in his building.

-    I don't think this book needs more explanation. You should already know what it is about.













My Thoughts:

-    I LOVE the movie, and I knew I needed to read the book, but for some reason, I haven't picked it up until now. 

-    Honestly, I love the movie more. While the book has it's charm, it isn't the same as seeing Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. 

-    I love that a lot of the dialogue in the book made it into the movie, practically word for word.

-    The ending to the movie is way more satisfying than the book ending.

-    For some reason there is something about Holly Golightly that resonates with me, and many people apparently. She is so lost and confused. She doesn't know what she wants, and in small ways, I feel like I can relate to her. I also feel sorry for her. I don't know what really draws people to her character, but she is fun. 

-    I thought it was strange that we never get to find out what the narrator's name is. I don't think Holly even knows his name. She just calls him Fred.
